Review: Flawed by Cecilia Ahern

Flawed (Flawed, #1)
You will be punished…

Celestine North lives a perfect life. She’s a model daughter and sister, she’s well-liked by her classmates and teachers, and she’s dating the impossibly charming Art Crevan.

But then Celestine encounters a situation where she makes an instinctive decision. She breaks a rule and now faces life-changing repercussions. She could be imprisoned. She could be branded. She could be found flawed.

In her breathtaking young adult debut, bestselling author Cecelia Ahern depicts a society where perfection is paramount and flaws lead to punishment. And where one young woman decides to take a stand that could cost her everything.

Lisa's Review - 5 out of 5 stars

It can always be risky territory when an author switches genre, especially a high profile, well known and much loved author like Cecelia Ahern, but Flawed was one hell of a good risk. If I could have given this more stars, I would have. I have often described books as 'un-put-down-able', but Flawed I really couldn't put down, in fact I went to bed last night and gave up trying to sleep and picked up my Kindle and didn't put it down until the small hours and I had finished the book.

Stepping into the world of YA and dystopia, Cecelia Ahern takes us into Celestine's world. A world where someone who is deemed to be 'flawed' by The Guild, is branded, and everyone knows it. The Flawed are treat differently, almost going back in time to the way coloured slaves used to be treat. Seeing that the Flawed system is not always is great as the world has been led to believe, a situation occurs where Celestine cannot help but show her compassionate side, and she helps a sick, elderly man. But he is branded as Flawed, and now Celestine is in big trouble for aiding a Flawed person.

What occurs after leads to some pretty harrowing scenes, chapters that I struggled to read through. Beautifully but  graphically written, I found myself switching between horror, disgust and upset as I read through the pages. I cried for Celestine, and other characters, as the writing pulled me into a world I didn't like, but also couldn't put down to escape from.

So many characters were written amazingly well, from those characters you connect with, the ones you root for, the ones you hate, the ones you don't want to trust...there wasn't a single character that was badly written, in fact there wasn't a single page that was badly written throughout the whole book.

I absolutely loved Flawed. I was starting to think that the dystopian world of books was dying out as they all seemed to 'samey' or copycat like, and I've struggled to find a dystopian book that was in a world of its own, but Ceceilia Ahern has absolutely nailed it with this step outside of her comfort zone, proving that sometimes gambles pay off. The only thing I am devastated about is that we have to wait until March 2017 for the next book!!
